“Soulidified, the Past Future and Present of soul music” – Aziz Collins, one half of U.City. Much of my success last summer, with the rooftop Love Life event, was attributed to Aziz. Also if you recall the LVRS LANE mixtape, it features some of U.City’s music off their forthcoming project. Back to the subject Soulidified, is the musical showcase for all soul & neo-soul artist to perform. I always enjoy myself because it provides with that mature, grown, yet intimate atmosphere, therefore you can imagine how I felt once I was invited to be the resident DJ. The show originated in Philadelphia however this go round the brains behind the event took Soulidified 95South, Wilmington DE and back to Philly the next day. For the first time I felt like I was on tour…more to come on that subject, lol.
This particular event just so happened to be MJB Edition; honoring one of our cultures most influential artist, Mary J. Blige. I did enjoy much of the concert which included opening act “Range The Messenger” doing a rendition of Come Close, by Common followed by Jade Alston singing Be Happy. Each artist also provided listeners with original pieces that further defined them as true soul artist.
In sum, thank you Breakbread Projects, U.City, and Worldcafe live for having me…
